Ventrino Forum for Walker Scripts _ Interesting Stuff _ Need To Do A Screen Shot?

Posted by: Rebecca Beasley Feb 18 2009, 11:30 AM

This is something I learned several years ago and
would like to pass on for anyone who needs to send
a screen shot, for instance..you have an error that
you want to show someone, or you're seeing something
on their site that they're not seeing.

Send them a shot of your screen.

Just press the print screen button on your keyboard
This puts what you see on your screen on your clipboard.

Now open up start/programs/accessories/paint

After you open your paint program, just hit ctrl v to paste.

Now save the screen shot as filename.gif or jpg (bmp is too large)

Now you can send it via messenger or e-mail by clicking on the send file
or browse button and send the picture to them.

Hi Rebecca,

Great tip, and an additional note. Some may have to hold the Alt key down at the same time as they press the PrtSc (Print Screen) button.

But I do it all the time! smile.gif

Thanks smile.gif

But, I don't have a paint program. So, what other option do I have then??

Hi Rooster,

If you have windows, from 95-vista, you have a paint program, but you just probably never used it! smile.gif

It can be found in the Start menu, off of All Programs>Accessories

It's just called Paint.

However, if you don't have Paint (not installed perhaps) you can paste the image in wordpad too! Wordpad can be found in the same location as Paint would be.

Finally, you can download a number of free paint software, including http://gimp.org/, which I heartily recommend.

I'm using ScreenHunter. A Free Program that works great for me!

http://www.paint.net/

This is also free and is an awesome program, with great plugins and forum.

Firefox has a great screen capture add-on, i also have snagit which will do screen videos too smile.gif

I agree the 2 best open source programs are getpaint.net (which more of a draw program and Gimp ( which is more of an image manipulation program) Use the 2 together and you can do just about anything Photoshop can do. They both have great forums, lessons and mods.

I also use eDraw, it has some of the neatest lighting effects you can't find anywhere else smile.gif but it's not free.

Thanks for all the info smile.gif

Actually, I have Windows XP, but I do not have the paint program in my accessories. Not sure why??

I do use Gimp, so will try that.

How does one do it with Firefox?

Hey Sheila,

Firefox has a screen capture add-on called FireShot, and if I'm not mistaken, it works also on Internet explorer...

Just checked, yes, even on IE, although I'm having a problem with the toolbar in there right now... sad.gif

Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5648 to learn more about it and download it if you like.

Unless you made a custom version of XP like I did... you definitely have MS Paint (although, I don't recommend making gifs or jpgs (png is ok) with it, as it's compression algorithms are a mess -- download irfanview instead.) -- here's what I would recommend Rooster.

Click on your Start button.
Click on Run
Type 'mspaint'
Click OK

If you have Paint installed (and I'm 99.7% sure that you do), it will launch for you. You probably misplaced or accidentally deleted the original shortcut at one time.
