How To Fix "trial Over" Messages On A Licensed Domain, and steps to prevent this happening when changing domains

As you know your domain is licensed to operate the script. When you move to a different domain (whether an IP or domain name) the license breaks and you will get the "Trial Over" error message. Understandibly this can be frustrating so this post will explain how to avoid it.

1. If you are going to change your domain (not your hosting): Before you ever call the script from the new domain login to your client account, select "My Licenses", delete the old domain (doesn't matter if it's still running, as long as you don't login your members will not be interrupted), add the new domain.

This effectively moves the license to the new script. You should now test your script (login as a member and change some of the configuration screens) and if all is correct migrate your members from the old domain to the new.

Note that as soon as you login to your old domain the license will expire and at sometime in the near future you will get the "Trial Over" message on the old site as expected.

2. You are moving your domain to a new host: Most of the time you will have to do nothing, however on rare occassions you will get the "Trial Over" message. The cause is complex to explain but the solution is simple. Copy the data/exchange.php file from the backup (or old hosting if you still have it).

3. You keep renewing the license but "Trial Over" remains. This occurs because the permissions you have set for the /data folder and particularly the exchange.php file are blocking the system from updating it for you. When you renew a license it updates this file with your domain. If you spell it wrong or the file is read only it will not update with the correct name.

There are probably a few other reasons but follow the above and all should be well with the exception of 3. If you have set the permissions incorrectly and this is part of a hosting move on rare occassions we have had to issue a full reset. This stems from the license believing it has been issued and ignores your request. Initially you requested the new domain name the file permissions were correct, but as you moved to a new host or altered the permissions on /data folder and exchange.php the system is unaware the license has not been issues (the script does not check back for a license, rather we push a license to you when your script requests one). If this happens you will need to ask the license to be reset (open a ticket) but make sure the permissions are set correctly first.

I had the same thing recently. You need to login and follow the instructions under "My License". Basically just need to create the license again after they add your licenses. Dig out the receipt if you have them as it will save them time hunting down the old accounts.


All set seems that if you purchased the script a few years back the License is not in your back office.

Anyway all taken care of..
