Just lately I have been getting an infuriating amount of spam from a company calling itself boxbe – and there’s no way to stop it. Like most people I rarely take notice of spam, but feel taken when something non spammy looking get’s me to open it.
When you signup to a company and decide later you don’t want anything to do with them it’s usually an easy process to remove your account. All good forum software and traffic exchanges do that but not these boxbe people.
Somehow their rubbish finds a way through boxtrapper and spam assassin, and because I get caught each time I am wasting more and more time.
They want me to share my contacts with them, maybe they think other people want to receive their spam too! Or perhaps they think they should be allowed to because facebook does?
They are mad, why would anyone want to do that?
Your friends will hate you if you use this service. They will get spammed to death!
To get rid of boxbe, try changing your password on your account.
That’s what I did and it’s gone.
BOXBE REALLY DESTROYED MY LIFE ,I LOST SOME JOBS AND SOME OF MY FRIENDS BECAUSE THEY EMAILED ME AND I NEVER GOT IT AND I OPPENED ANOTHER EMAIL ADDRESS AND TRIED TO TRANSFER LIST OF MY FRIENDS ,AND THAT CAUSED ME TO LOOSE EVEN TGE NEW EMAIL .IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DISCONNECT BOXBE I DID ANYTHING AND NOW EVEN I CAN NOT ACCESS TO MY FACEBOOK ACCOUNT .THEY ARE THE MOST CRIMINAL I HAVE EVER FACED
Hi Martyn-
Sorry for any trouble that we may have caused. You can opt out of future invites from Boxbe by going here – https://www.boxbe.com/unsubscribe
Cheers,
Randy Stewart
Boxbe Product Manager
Perfect, Thanks Randy.
READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH!!!!!!!!!! Somehow 6 months ago someone sent me an email and I’ve been tagged since with this Boxbe spam.
I thought it ended until I joined MATCH.COM 2 days ago . NOW THIS IS REALLY BAD!!!!!!!!! I’m getting emails from guys who are replying to a Boxbe email that says it is from me. I’m really pissed about this. You have to email me and get this straightened out. I have two email addresses.
hunter1822@bellsouth.net
hunter18222@yahoo.com
boxbe is more than a nuisance. i was successful removing it from my other email address by changing my password, then 2 months after ,it was able to get into my other email UNAUTHORIZED ny lying :”you register and have an account with us”. now i am worried due to privacy issue and i would not be able COM. It is like a LEACH, difficult to remove or an anaconda.
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE THIS VIRUS FROM MY ACCOUNT THEY DESTROYED MY LIFE.
NOOOOOoooo! To get out of Boxbe you have to go into your account (hopefully you have your user id and password!) AND close your account. That is the only way to stop the Boxbe emails.
Gerry
I could not get into “you have no account” after I used my email address and password to login.
I unsubscribed but now i have no idea where my junk mail is going – it’s totally gone altogether? So when someone new writes to me I don’t get their email or away to see who is sending me “junk” mail that may not be junk. This was a time waster and invasion.
BOXBE DESTROYED MY LIFE I LOST EVERYTHING ,JOB,FRIENDS …….IDONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ?
Anyone who runs Web sites notice that Boxbe invitations seem to regularly come to e-mail address that nobody should be sending e-mail to, such as various corporate or administrative addresses? Why would an acquaintance be sending an invitation to unsubscribe@domain.com? Obviously Boxbe or its hired minions are mass mailing spam to harvested addresses. This usually happens in the desperate straits just before the meltdown. I won’t miss you, Boxbe. And Randy, go and get a real job.
Randy, boxbe emails are required to put the link to the opt-out list within the email that is being sent out. So far, all the emails I’ve gotten have not had this link.

IT IS THE MOST DAGEROUS VIRUS …………………….
I have the police department stating my mail is going to them. I have opted out yet it still goes there. Do I go to the attorney general?
PLEASE ,SOMEONE MUST DO SOMETHING THEY ARE VERY DANGEROUS PEOPLE WHO RUNNING BOXBE SCAM AND DESTROYING THE PEOPLES LIFE.
Boxbe sounds like a great deal for Internet users that are tired of the Internet’s other “netizens” illicitly procuring their address book, and would rather simply give it to them to use for SPAM.
Like others that provide a “service” in exchange for your address book, they “protect” your address book for you.
It’s a lot like putting your guns in a “service provider’s” temp and humidity controlled vault, so that your guns will be “safe” from the elements.
And when you need your gun, go get it from the vault!
Easy!
Sincerely
Fred Flintstone
Let me quote from Seth Grobin’s blog, on the new mindset marketers should have:
“I can build a reputation in everything I do. If I teach people to trust me, then over time, I’ll conserve their attention and build permission. That’s priceless, particularly in a world that’s getting more skeptical by the minute. ”
Judging by the comments above, looks like Boxbe is history.
My apologies, that is Seth Godin, not Grobin.
Changed my password…IT LIVES!!!
Signing up for Boxbe was a horrible mistake. I did so only because when I e-mailed a friend….I got a message that she only took mail from those signed-up.
Boxbe should be shut down. It is simply a scam.
Agreed! Boxbe is making SPAM in the name of SPAM prevention! If Karma is real, their servers will implode soon.
I just warned other users of Boxbe on Wikipedia. We’ll see if the warning stays posted.
This boxbe is a spamming device that e mails every single person who sends you an e mail or receives an e mail from you..people are actually phoning me to ask me to stop sending them the boxbe e mails as their inboxes are full of this crap…i have tried logging in as the – so called administarator of the scam advises but their login page refuses to accept my details..also when I try the forgotten login details link it refuses to recognise my e mail addres..although it uses it to spam all my contacts…my advice is to stay away from this rubbish and tell as many people as you can to do the same..they are scumbags!!!
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM NOW ICAN NOT EVEN HAVE ACCESS TO MY EMAIL ADDRESS I AM DYING BECAUSE OF BOXBE
As I was removing my boxbe account, I left a complaint about how intrusive their service was. Then I changed my passwords to my email. While I was looking at my gmail mail account, I noticed that boxbe had inserted a “Boxbe waiting list”. This was a complete surprise, but after I deleted it, I haven’t seen anything since. Hope this helps!
I got a e-mail for Boxbe and I did not realize what it was . Can you please delete me from it as I am nt sure how to do it . thank you.
Alice, you will have to contact boxbe.com, ask for Randy Stewart (see his comment above)
This Boxbe has hijacked my business email, on my Outlook, address and customers and suppliers are getting very upset with the emails they are getting: 1. they do not know if their emails are getting to me & 2. They are frustrated with the amount of them they are getting & 3. These emails look as though they are a personal email from me.
So have we determined how to get rid of this yet? I have: 1.i Disable all options on the account 2. I changed my password for my account 3. I closed the account As stated above…IT LIVES!!!
Help!
I have been working online for several year now and Boxbe is using the most insidious form of marketing I’ve seen .
The poor unsuspecting people who sign up for it think it will solve a problem. What it will do is get you removed from the mailing lists that you actually want.
I have recently had some of the people that have been on a mailing list for some time start using Boxbe. First I get a return mail from my email saying that I must respond to have my address in their ‘approved’ list. This is annoying in itself.
But after I am on the persons Boxbe list, Boxbe comtinues to send me emails, 2 a day per person, that I am on their list. . and by the way, “take a look at boxbie”
This is spam folks, the very thing you are trying to get rid of, now by using Boxbie, you are giving it to me, someone who you already chose to receive emails from.
Sorry, but I don’t want to go through the Boxbe hassle, get Boxbe and you will get dropped from my list.
Please, don’t get fooled by this self perpetuating marketing ploy whereby they are creating the problem they want to sell you a fix for. In the investment world this can get oyu into trouble!
I say, stay away, it’s just another layer of stuff for you to have to deal with.
All the best,
John
GIVE US SUGGESTION HOW TO GET RID OF THIS PROBLEM??????????????????
that randy stewart guy is a lying piece of shit..when you try to access your so called boxbe account, the site will not recognise your details. therefore you cannot login and you cannot opt out of the useless shite of a “service” they con you into joining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot get into my account to cancel because Boxbe does not recognize my password even though they sent a new one to me. It is a Robot that spams all your email. What authorities does one go to to take this Robot off the air.
THEY ARE CRIMINAL
Yep, this Randy guy needs dragging out of his house in front of his family and gived a good, hard kicking. All spammers deserve this.
Every time I send an email to a friend it gets copied & sent back to me with “action required” – fortunately to my spam folder.
Those scumbags are a waste of good air & should f**k up and die… We should all chant for it. Randy, I hope you can feel the vibe, you piece of worthless sh*t!
I DO 100% AGREE WITH YOU RUSS , I FEEL BOXBE KILLED ALL MY FAMMILY ,I HATE BOXBE AND THE CRAZY SICK PEOPLE WHO RUNNING IT
I seriously doubt Boxbe killed your family.
They probably got sick of your over-dramatics and constant use of capital letters.
I HATE BOXBE!!! STOP SPAMMING ME YOU F******S!
I hate boxbe!! I hate boxbe than a dusbin..All the dusty people are managing boxbe,it’s simply a painful and very painful …Boxbe making my life hell…I think boxbe needs to be banned….Shup up boxbe…Otherwise i will inform my police…Heared what i say?
Randy IS full of it. I never subscribed to the damn service. If he was for real, he’d leave HIS email address so we could spam him! I hate this thing.
Found this for contact info for Randy and everyone else with them…

How can I close my Boxbe account?
If you would like to close your account for any reason, you can close it yourself from the Account Info page once you are logged in:
https://www.boxbe.com/account-info
Here’s a public message for Randy Stewart (Boxbe Product Manager):
May you and 7 generations of your decendents rot in hell.
dunno why im getting mail from some geezer with a latino name who i dont know and i never heard of boxbe let alone signed up for the damn thing…can someone tell me is there a hotmail public address book because ive been getting a lot of adds on msn too lately..how can they get my address? thanks
You can DELETE your BOXBE account by simply going to their `Account”->`Setting’ & close account option.
Not so easy to close the account. When I tried, the same system that opened the account in 10 seconds flat suddenly froze. These people should be driven out of business!
I just did it.. But my contacts may already have been spammed.. Is there any way of `unsending’ or `expiring’ such emails?
You can reach Randy at his ‘real’ email at randy_stewart ‘at’ yahoo.com
I just got some e-mail from ‘noreply@boxbe.com’ with an attachment file format of ‘.eml’ (email?) and since I use yahoo, Norton Antivirus said it contained a virus and it could not be cleaned. I have no idea what is going on. (I’ve never even visited boxbe’s site.)
WARNING! I clicked on a Boxbe spam email link and contracted three viruses that completely disabled Internet Explorer and Firefox.
The only good information about this company on the internet is authored by Randy Stewart himself. Everyone else is complaining about how miserable it has made them (and everyone they know). Boxbe should be investigated by the authorities.
How do I uninstall boxbe, I searched it on my computer files, nothing shows up. Boxbe puts incoming mail into their file… HOW DO I GET RID OF BOXBE……
I hope that those who have been intruded on by boxbe to file a class action law suite. This company hijacked my email, and even delayed email from my ad. account, and from my website. When I attempted to ask them who they were, I got an undeliverable, I sent 5 business related emails, and all were delayed, and had boxbe tantings attached to them. What gives them the right to operate like this? Randy Stewart (Boxbe Product Manager): I don’t want to hear how sorry you are, you need to shut down this operation all together.
I have no idea why Draper, Fisher, Jurvetson (DFJ)– one of the top Venture Capitalist firms around– would continue to enable a company with such a BS if not dead-end business model. Seriously, any theories anyone?
I almost just now fell for the Boxbe invite – I hesitated when I saw there was no choice to not invite my established contacts. Thanks for the feedback here, it’s saved me something of a headache.
I recceived an e-mail from Boxbe but I marked it as spam. I hope they do not cause problems for me
boxbe is an unbelievably annoying “service”. if you use it, you’re going in my spam list. i hope others do the same.
go to hell boxbe, randy stewart, u suck, go to hell i wat to put you in a blender then smash you with a rock then run you over with a lawn mower, then thorw you away in the trast can and hove you be burned, so you can actually do something good for the world- make positive energy.
Hey Y’all, Time Out here,
Why all the diatribe? I sincerely relate to the side effects of this unconventional email filtering system known as “boxbe” but take a deeper look…
Do we realize how we’ve become a slave to the internet and email? Otherwise, why do we feel so oppressed and helpless to change our situation? You may want to retract the homicidal statements, as Mr. Stewart may have grounds for charges.
I bet all these death threats could have been diverted if we took a step back and asked ourselves, “am I justified in becoming angry?”…Boxbe didn’t hi-jack your email addresses, you freely gave it up. So it may behoove us to read through the product-service agreement before investing in legal services. Actually, the credit card system is muct more nefarious…they bombard us with random presorted spam letters and jeopardize the integrity of our finances. Boxbe doesn’t touch your finances. If your friends shun you for a couple email notices, then you should question the basis of that friendship. All I’m saying is, don’t get wrapped around the axle about a free service with whom’s terms we all acknowledged. Instead, why not give suggestions for a better design (ie. a personalized greeting instead of the boxbe standard greeting)? Understandably, some of us are less computer literate than others, so we tend to take the “victim” mindset in these cases. Just think about it…
The Internet is also a place of anonymity and thus people can go bit far when expressing their anger, I would hope no one would really want to do him actual harm.
Not everyone did sign up to boxbe as you suggest. My issue was the volume of spam and bounced mail hitting my servers from a company I had never heard of. The solution was to block their IP address across the network. In my case that’s fine because mail is a by product and not a requirement.
For other businesses they were damned if they do and damned if they don’t. If they blocked boxbe then their customers might leave for other hosts who don’t. If they didn’t block boxbe then the volume of spam complaints generated may force their upline providers to pull the plugs on their servers.
It was a frustrating situation for a while. The fact that a third party, and unknown organisation, could be a threat to business in this way was ridiculous. Fortunately boxbe quickly resolved that issue but as you can see their general method of promotion is still causing some anger.
This post currently receives 300 visits a day, a little less from its peak, which suggests any changes they have introduced may have placated the wishes of hosts but not that of the friends of it’s users. What I find remarkeable is that people still need this kind of spam protection. Far better to host with a company that has spamassasin enabled or use gmail.com. Don’t worry about false positives or missing important mail, if it is important it will find another way to get to you.
I barely use email these days anyway. If I need to signup to something I use a disposable email service like http://www.trash2009.com instead.
Boxbe is proven SPAM! If you guys have already subscribed to it, you are DOOMED. So, My advice to all the readers, members and all users. Please don’t register to boxbe. They are spam donkeys. They should be punished for these spam. Randy Stewart, you are a complete piece of useless garbage. Go to hell!!!
I want to delete BOXBE completely in my YAHOO e-mail please. I have to many spams. Please do me a favor DELETE BOXBE in my computer. Thank you,
Jean Dorcely
I find comments like these completely hilarious.
Don’t worry Jean! I’m just about to turn into a pixie and magically shrink to the size of an electron and then I will begin my trek through the tubes of the internets down to your house where I will fix your computer for you, just like that! Yee haw!
What I don’t understand is why Yahoo! doesn’t shut them down. Boxbe needs to access Yahoo!’s API in order to “hijack” your mailbox.
Next time this happens, email Yahoo! customer service and complain!
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS RUBBISH !!!! BOXBE YOU A**HO*LE
INCONVEVIENTLY ANNOYING PIECE OF SH**T!!!!!!!!!!!!
KEEP YOUR TRASH RANDY STEWART
I receive email from a form on my website. No, suddenly, everytine I get one of these emails, I get a boxbe request too. It is truly annoying. I am only hoping my clients aren’t also getting this rubbish.
I fully understand people on ere getting angry with them.
Well I’m using Boxbe and still using , it had a proble and i’m able to find out what was that..
First of all people should evelute the product that they’re using, knowing how to use it can create a problem. I think what people need to do here.
Log in to Boxbe > settings > Courtesy Notices > Uncheck all options there…that’s it problem solved
Courtesy Noticed is a feature where my contacts will get a email that his or her email is in waiting list and please send a request so in future you’ll able to send email (email will get directly in to inbox not in waiting list)
this thing we can do by our self to, only if you want the inbox tied clean and organized.
Have you all herd of invitation based system, take an example of facebook where your invite your contacts to join facebook or you invite your contact to use gmail? many did this. this is the same thing but company did a mistake here to autometicaly start this feature (means opted-in us automatically, by default this option should unchecked, user have the right to send the notice to hie her contacts)
The problem is when my bank receved email from be(sent my boxbe, to add the bank id in white list) problem started from there and they email me back and ask me sir, have you getting in any problem from our side. I replied them no i don’t have any problem, your services are perfect what happen?
then I’m able to find out that they got email from boxbe (behalf of me because the Courtesy Notices was enable and that’s why they got this request email.
here the company who using to send newsletter from their email ids like “noreply@example.com” which indicating that you can’t reply them back so when boxbe send and email “to white list that email” (here boxbe use your id in from feald) so you’ll get a non delivery email landed to your inbox. Now you’re wondering i didn’t send this email why I’m getting this nondelivery email notification over to my inbox? is anyone misusing my email id?
so this is the problem, I’m still using the services and satisfied with it, no problem i got aft disabling “Courtesy Notices” the option.
This is like a VIP guest list. have you ever went to a function or desco club or resturent? where you’re on a vip list or priority list, if you’re in the list you able to get in first and if you’re not in the list! “Sorry sir, you’re not in the list, have to wait to get in, please wait in the line, thank you :)”
Incorporate that idea for your email. that’s how boxbe works, you white list it and that emails get to your inbox and not white listed emails get to waiting list. not go to spam or deleted.
What I do is pretty drastic, but it works.
I go to my gmail settings page, then set a filter for “*@boxbe.com”. I configure the filter to send mail from boxbe directly to trash. I may lose a friend’s email this way but I never get hit more than once.
I have done the same thing with facebook, hi-5, twitter, and other social networking sites.
NOT ONE OF MY FRIENDS was a member of the site, or actually sent the invitation.
If any of my friends want me to join facebook or twitter they must send me a personal email. To which I politely respond that I refuse to join such sites because of their spamming and spying policies. All of them set “clear gifs” “web beacons”, whatever they’re called, to track your online surfing.
Not to mention cookies.
Boxbe.com is a SCAM
I have never seen such a vicious attack on email accounts that couldn’t be stopped. You do not have to do anything to be attacked by this company except receive an email from a friend that has either signed up with them or has been a victim of their scam. I have been in the computer business for over 10 years now and this is the worst I have seen…concerning stealing of email addresses, contact lists and then going on a full scale spamming spree. They steal all your contacts once they have your email address and spam them all…over and over…IT DOES NOT STOP. They might even be using your email account for illegal activities.
Under the frequently asked questions it reads as this:
What prevents people from sending me messages I don’t want?
Mail will only be delivered to your Inbox under conditions you control and Boxbe enforces.
Mail goes in your Inbox if:
■you have added the sender or the domain as a guest or
■the sender makes a simple robot-proof request
■the message is under your customizable junk rating threshold
■the message is from a contact of a friend
Reference the second bullet point:
* THE SENDER MAKES A SIMPLE ROBOT-PROOF REQUEST
A “Robot-Proof Request” basically means some type of invite, which is fine. Click yes if you want to accept, click no if you don’t. With Boxbe.com all you have to do is be the unfortunate recipient of this request via email and then the nightmare begins. They steal your email address, entire contact list and who knows what else. They can now send emails from your account to all of your contacts and who knows who else. Besides the fact that the emails to your contacts look like they are legitimately coming from you, the emails usually contain links to sites that are infected with viruses, unusual websites amongst other things. Even if you X out of the window (close it and not choose to accept or decline the request) your email address and all your contacts will still be stolen. Basically, once you receive an email from someone that has boxbe they start their campaign. This is where they get your email address and all your contacts and go to work spamming them to “death”.
I have contacted the Better Business Bureau, The Trade Commission and the F.B.I. concerning this company. I am also going to the New York Times (as I have a contact there and will be bringing a substantial amount of documentation showing wrong doing. In addition, I will show red flags via the internet that this company is problematic and potentially a threat) amongst other media organizations. I will also be contacting T.V. stations and sharing all the information I have compiled which is extensive. After confirming legitimacy of my experience, the experiences of friends and colleagues, documentation and findings combined with doing research on their own, I’d hope that a few national broadcast stations will seriously consider doing a short segment on Boxbe.com. Hopefully then Boxbe.com will finally be exposed for what the company really is, a scam.
Below, please find the culprits behind this scam:
Thede Loder – Founder and CEO
Thomas Quinto – VP of Engineering
Randy Stewart – VP of Product
Casey Connor – Senior Java Engineer
Below please find investors who made this “wonderful company” possible:
Draper Fisher Jurvetson
Esther Dyson – Board Member and Investor
Steve Jurvetson
Note:
People have been told by the company via threads and forums what to do to stop this but nothing ever works. The problem always comes back. It also says on the website how to opt out/unsubsubcribe but that does not work either…keeps coming back.
Boxbe is great.
I use it to guard my periphery email account — the address I share with people I neither trust nor know well. The same type of people who merrily mash FWD exposing MY email address to the countless nefarious marketing hoard.
I don’t care how “challenge/response” might annoy a few ignorant people. I am sick to death of people who abuse the PRIVILEGE of knowing my email address. At some point I share a more proximate email address with contacts that has no ties to boxbe
@ luddites
easily stop employing boxbe by using yahoo’s permission manager. Simply REVOKE boxbe permission to access your yahoo account.
sadly setting boxbe as the primary email address in yahoo options results in needed to solve MANY MANY CAPTCHAs
interestingly mail sent from yahoo’s own AddressGuard email addresses via webmail are commonly tagged as spam
***
I would prefer a free webmail service that employed TMDA.net fully.
***
I have tested boxbe with virgin email accounts. NO SPAM generated incoming- or outgoing. You twits ought use the extensive boxbe configuration options instead of complaining about behavior you don’t understand.
I would, however, much prefer that the challenge email could be sent from other-than the webmail email address I am attempting to protect!
TMDA.net is THE ultimate challenge/response and disposable email overlay
A flamitory message “Meh”, but it has missed the point entirely. The complaint comes from those who do not have and have never had a boxbe account. The problem is the spam sent by boxbe to all the contacts in an address book. This is precisely definition of UCE – Unsolicted Commercial Email.
And beleive me none of us would consider knowing your email address a privilege.
Nice. “privilege”… that’s funny.
Boxbe has been criticized as an internet fraud scheme that enables spammers to buy access to Boxbe member’s in-boxes for the purpose of sending spam.[citation needed] Users have complained that it spoofs their address in email soliciting others to become members.[citation needed]
Boxbe is said to cause problems with legitimate bulk email senders that rely on bounce filters in order to remove email addresses from databases. The claim is that Boxbe replies to the mail servers with the standard “Click here to be put on my Guest List” email but alters the original mail headers by completely removing the original recipient’s address. Bounce filters require this data in order to stop sending email to the original address. This causes bloating in databases as well as internet congestion.[
My recommendation would be for everyone suffering from this site should make a complaint against the company on the following (USA) website: http://www.ftc.gov/
So… I just got an email from a guy I worked with about 5 years ago (haven’t spoken to him since) saying “Chad, I’d like to share approved contacts with you on Boxbe,” followed by a link. Obviously I did not click on the link because of what I’m reading here, but I’m wondering if I should opt out from future Boxbe invitations? There is a link to do that within the email, but I’m wondering if it’s safe to “go there?” This Boxbe really should be shut down if it’s as bad as everyone says it is.
The only assiciation I had with Boxbe was visiting their website homepage, knowing it wasn’t for me, and leaving.
Didn’t think anything of it until yesterday. Unbelievably, Boxbe hijacked links within my email. Two weeks ago took photos of event and too many to email – even downsized. Using Adobe Lightroom I uploaded them to my website and emailed the link. Worked fine initially as could tell by the hit spike on Google Analytics. Then yesterday get a reply” email from a recipient wanting to know the password!
Confused, I hit the link on the original email she had replied back to me with. Sure enough, up pops a Boxbe login screen. Thinking my website had been compromised with a password system that I never set up, on a fresh browser went to the homepage. No problem. Then typed in the remainder of the address (page not on site map or any menu) and again, no problem with a password intercept. Recreated a new email to the person having a problem with a fresh link and they were then able to access the page.
Appears that just that original email was affected – perhaps somewhere in the forwarding chain. By design, I sent the original to an Area director, requesting that they forward to Club Presidents of the clubs in their area, who further forwarded to the individual club members. Very efficient distribution of 40+ photos with a single link of an event where no photos were allowed during a contest – and I was the sole authorized exception.
Just how do you opt out of that when were not part of it in the first place!
